POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a creative, experienced educator who thrives in a teaching and learning ecosystem that may be online and in-person. As someone who will demonstrably support Humber’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging the successful incumbent will seek ways to teach, develop curriculum, design/revise specific courses and/or lab experiments that are accessible for students in varying stages of learning in subjects areas that may include chemistry, biology, writing, critical thinking, mathematics, physics, among others.
The successful incumbent will create an effective and innovative learning environment for our students, assess student progress and achievement; work collaboratively with colleagues, participate in or initiate and lead advancements in teaching and learning ideally through applied research and/or community service learning, special projects, committees and related associations. Teaching will be assigned at the North campus and may include teaching at the International Graduate School (Toronto).
The incumbent will also support student orientation, advising, student recruitment, pathway and program development, implementation and reviews, graduate placement, assist with the promotion and marketing of programs as well as develop and maintain strong cross-college, pan-institutional, field of expertise and/or industry ties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Master’s in chemistry or biology and a minimum of 4 years teaching experience in the classroom and science laboratory setting; completion of doctoral studies in chemistry or biology with a minor in mathematics/physics is preferred.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in applied research and/or community service learning, working with and/or in industry with a demonstrated ability to teach a number of courses offered by the college, along with specialized skills in organic chemistry to develop and lead lab experiments in an academic setting.
In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students eager to improve their GPA, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student-focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change in teaching and learning on an ongoing basis. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of principles of equity and inclusion, be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive team culture. The successful candidate will also possess well-developed interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills and have demonstrated ability to contribute positively to curriculum development and delivery. They will also be willing to consider the role of Program Coordinator in the Pathways group of programs at a future date.
