Position Summary

Reporting to the Chair, Specialized Certificates & Access Program Innovation. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the General Arts Certificate & Liberal Arts Diploma Program, within the School of Advancement. The faculty member will participate in program and course development, course modifications, Ministry and College quality reviews, program advisory committees, applied research activities, and on-going future program needs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach General /Liberal Arts program courses – including, but not limited to, Introduction to Canadian Politics, Critical Thinking Across Disciplines, Introduction to Philosophy or Popular Culture.
  • Utilize a variety of effective teaching/learning and assessment strategies, which includes technology, co-operative learning, critical approaches to pedagogy, and ways of knowing.
  • Participate in on-going course/curriculum design and revision as a subject matter expert.
  • Research, design, develop, and revise learning resources for students, providing ongoing critical examination of learning materials and classroom instructional practice that contribute to discriminatory bias or barriers.
  • Apply a critical understanding of language proficiency and special needs issues in the classroom.
  • Participate in annual and comprehensive program quality review.
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques including Universal Design
  • Participate in ongoing professional development including reflective practice.
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on principles and world views that are inclusive of principles of inclusion, equity and diversity.
  • Liaise and communicate with students, faculty, management and external partners/community members, Provides academic support to students including availability for scheduled appointments
  • Possesses experience, insight and knowledge in curriculum design, development and revision.
  • Attend meetings, maintain records of student grades/assessments, and participate in meetings and activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques.
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for systemic, structural and colonial bias or barriers

Qualifications/Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Humanities or Social Sciences. PhD in Humanities or Social Sciences an asset.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ cross disciplinary teaching experience at the Post-Secondary level, in one or more of the following areas: History, Politics, Critical Thinking and Humanities.
  • Experience in application of technology in an online learning environment.
  • Experience in curriculum development and course design.
  • Effective conflict resolution skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff.
  • Application of worldviews of Indigenous peoples including FNIM, western and non-western principles of inclusion, equity and diversity into the design and delivery of Liberal and General Arts courses.
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to advance and promote a respectful and supportive environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to meet accessibility and accommodation needs of students.
