POSITION

Program Assistant C (Staff & Student Engagement Intern)

CONTEXT

The mission of the McGill Office of Sustainability ( MOOS ) is to create a culture of sustainability at McGill. MOOS aims to identify, connect, and enhance efforts to incorporate principles of sustainability (ecological, social, and economic) into all areas of the University. We provide the institutional memory and knowledge, the network of partnerships, the framework for sustainability at McGill ( Climate & Sustainability Strategy ), and the seed funding ( Sustainability Projects Fund ) to facilitate the sustainability efforts of students, faculty, and staff.

DUTIES

  • Run MOOS’ student engagement programs, the Sustainability Ambassadors Program (SAP) and the Student Sustainability Network (SSN) by:
    • Managing resource email account,
    • Recruiting volunteers to participate in SAP and organize their training schedule,
    • Coordinating and facilitating biweekly meetings for SAP and meetings twice per semester with SSN,
    • Keeping contact with sustainability student groups at McGill, and
    • Organizing engagement events 1-2 times per semester.
  • Collaborating with MOOS staff to design projects that promote sustainability at McGill.
  • Coordinate engagement activities, including SKILLS21 workshops for students.
  • Research and synthesize sustainability and engagement resources.
  • Represent MOOS in engagement activities with various groups on campus.
  • Other tasks as opportunities or interests arise.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be a current McGill student (students from all faculties are invited to apply)
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Strengths in being resourceful and taking initiative on ideas/projects
  • Reliable with strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to reliably produce high-quality work, on time, with limited supervision
  • Ability to keep track of, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks
  • Strong team player and people skills
  • Interest in engaging campus community members in discussions around sustainability

ASSETS:

  • Experience managing volunteers
  • Connection with student sustainability groups on campus
  • Understanding of basic sustainability concepts
  • Familiarity with Slack and Canva
  • Fluency in French

HOURS: 6-10 hours per week

REMUNERATION: $15.15 per hour + 4% vacation pay and compensation for legal holidays

PLANNED STARTING DATE (flexible): August 16, 2021 (depending on your availability) for one year, (with possibility to extend)
