Job Description:
Parsons is seeking a leader for an exciting opportunity as the Director of its bus initiative spearheading our electrification and alternative fuels strategy in transit. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of our electrification business in the North American market and ensuring excellence in the development and planned execution for projects and as appropriate any products to our customers.
Worldwide, nearly one quarter of all railroad miles are electric-powered, but in the U.S., that figure is significantly less in rail, less than 10 percent. The bus market is even lower for electric and alternative fuels. This market area is expected to grow significantly over the next 5-10 years and this individual has the opportunity to grow the market, while providing North American communities a more sustainable transportation solution. Whether mass transit or intra-city lines, electrified and zero-emission transit is highly reliable.
Reporting to the Director of Operations and Maintenance services within the Rail and Transit Solutions business sector in North America, this role can be located in any of geographies, including New York, Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, or Calgary and will work extensively with the Rail and Transit Solutions sector management team.
As the senior leader for the RTS bus initiative take ownership for the satisfaction of all our customers specifically,
Execute the growth plan for the bus electrification/alternative fuel projects and measure performance against milestones.
Responsible for pursuits and for high performing bid and setting up execution project teams for success.
Leverage customer relationships, market knowledge and technical expertise and understanding of key projects to drive and build robust installation opportunities.
Provide advice and expertise for planning, operations and maintenance of transit fleet and facilities.
Collaborate to provide a concept of operations approach based on a System Assurance/Systems Engineering methodology to project design, build, test, commission and operate and maintain.
Maintain excellent & personal relationships with key customers and business partners through direct interaction/involvement.
Actively collaborate with regional management and the sector and business unit management teams.
Support annual business planning process which includes development of targets and budgets and periodically present reports of the business performance and strategy to the sector management.
Provide mentorship in the areas of bid/no bid decision making, development of proposals and pursuits and win strategies, deal closing, contract terms negotiating, and claims management.
Develop personnel within the local team through personal mentorship, by embracing diversity, and by strengthening the personnel through training and development.
Represent the Sector (as the person in charge of the bus electrification/alternative fuels business) in front of the customer from the initial transaction of wining the project through to project mobilization, providing oversight and support to the Project Manager(s).
Responsible for maintaining and coordinating the Matrix of Authority process in accordance with Company guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience Include
P.Eng. or PE or equivalent
Minimum 10 years of general management and project management experience
Extensive project-based business experience, specifically in the field of electrification, zero emission technologies and operations and maintenance of a transit system
Experience in selling and or implementing of sophisticated (rail / infrastructure) projects
Solid technical knowledge of turnkey project execution, and its benefits and risks
Understanding of project financing structures
Understanding of customer procurement models
Strong communication skills and interpersonal expertise are crucial.
Interpersonal style that allows him/her to be demanding when setting and achieving results while working optimally in a team-based environment
Leadership methodologies e.g. for personnel management and development, team development, motivation, conflict management
Ability to work in a culturally diverse matrixed organization
