Organization Profile:
The Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy (MTD) at McGill University is an interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to understanding and responding to the social, political and policy challenges posed by the digital ecosystem on democracy. Our current research agenda is dedicated to three core programs: information ecosystems, technology governance, and media integrity. Working with a coalition of academic, policy, and impacted community stakeholders, the centre produces interdisciplinary research, policy activism, and a wide range of public-facing media and events to develop public policy that minimizes the harms embedded in our media and tech ecosystem, and maximizes their social, political and economic benefit. The Centre currently has 7 projects totalling $3.6 million
Position Summary:
This individual functions as the Project Manager for Research Activities of the Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy (MTD), leading the management and coordination of seven research projects (currently, but expanding rapidly) across various academic fields. The Project Manager manages the research activities of the Centre by forging strong relationships with our research networks and partners, and identifying opportunities for collaboration, greater impact and growth. They support in the organization of centre-wide research events and activities. Foremost, the Project Manager connects/makes relevant the partner engagement and research agenda of the MTD Centre.
Primary Responsibilities:

Coordination of multiple large research projects involving a network of academic, policy and media partners

Actively engage in the development and building of the center and its research and policy project

communication and reporting to stakeholders and funding organizations, project reports, funder reports and status reports on center research projects and activities

Manage organization of all research projects and activities to ensure deadlines and objectives are met

Coordinate and communicate among core center staff and stakeholders to meet project objectives

Track and maintain all research projects, activities, outputs and progress in the project database(s)

Supports financial management of grants

Supports collaborative funding efforts and grant writing
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
-
Master’s degree in a related field, ideally with a strong background at the intersection of digital technology, media studies, and public policy.

Managerial or supervisory experience required.

Effective written and verbal communicator.

Strong organizational skills and effective multi-tasking skills required (experience with project management tools an asset)

Research experience in topics related to the centre preferable

Strong desire to help build an institution

Annual Salary:
(MPEX Grade 03) $50,330.00 – $75,490.00
