Required
3 – 5 or more years of progressive management experience or commensurate life experience
Undergraduate degree in social work or equivalent human services education
Demonstrated evidence of a hard work ethic and ability to be a self-starter
Solid knowledge of cooking basics and a “feel” for making gourmet soup
Confident leadership abilities and capability of project management
Passionate about current challenges facing vulnerable, marginalized populations
Intermediate computer skills (Word processing, Financial management – (Excel), E-mail, Internet
Demonstrated ability to build and manage a team of engaged and committed volunteers

Job Synopsis This salaried part-time position (paid at 18.75 hours per week) is responsible for the successful leadership and management of a Raw Carrot Soup Enterprise extension site (franchise) as a ministry/outreach of Mennonite Central Committee Ontario.
This position works a variable schedule based on seasonal soup sales. Generally the schedule will be between 3 to 4 days a week with July and August dropping to 1 to 2 days a week. Candidates MUST be available to work Saturday or Sunday during soup season.
The Raw Carrot Extension Site Manager will be individual who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) through running an innovative social franchise. The job involves:
- Managing a Work Integration Social Enterprise that requires a balance between meeting the social goals of staff on ODSP AND ensuring that the business is financially viable through the sales of soup
- Managing a kitchen that produces consistent, high quality, gourmet soup with staff on ODSP and volunteers
The Raw Carrot Extension Site Manager oversees the Raw Carrot kitchen and corresponding business activities from the church where The Raw Carrot is cooking. Various aspects of sales, marketing, speaking and awareness raising are also required, which take place in outside locations (vendor/craft shows, soup sampling, events, etc…)
This position will require some evening and weekend work, to accommodate activities such as meetings, representing the organization at public events, soup sampling and soup sales. This role has indirect accountability to the Raw Carrot Hub.

Key Responsibilities Leadership
- Provide oversite and manage staff and volunteers of the Raw Carrot Soup Enterprise extension site
- Develop a yearly marketing and sales plan to guide sales pathways
- Act as a liaison between the Raw Carrot HUB, MCCO and the kitchen host site (Stirling Ave. Mennonite Church) on all aspects of the social enterprise activities
- Act as a spokesperson for the Raw Carrot extension / franchise site
- Conduct official correspondence on behalf of The Raw Carrot and MCCO as appropriate
- Represent the Raw Carrot and MCCO at community activities to enhance community profile
- Facilitate relationship with Raw Carrot HUB and attend meetings of managing directors and kitchen coordinators
Business Development
- Ensure that the operations of the Raw Carrot site are in line with the Raw Carrot social franchise model (prepare, cook, package and sell gourmet soup)
- Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the organization (soup production & sales)
- Oversee the creation, implementation and execution of sales opportunities
- Maintain health and safety accountability
- Maintain quality control accountability
Kitchen Operations
- Support and direct staff and volunteers in the preparation of ingredients, cooking, proper cooling and packaging of all products produced
- Develop weekly cook and packaging list and source all necessary ingredients
- Monitor and maintain the employees’ work schedule and submission of worked hours
- Manage the production of high quality, gourmet soup
- Equip the local kitchen with all necessary kitchen equipment
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of the kitchen
Human Resources Planning and Management
- Oversee the implementation of the human resources policies, procedures and practices
- Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations
- Recruit, interview and select staff (with support from MCCO)
- Recruit, train and engage a rotation of dedicated volunteers
- Ensure that all staff receive an orientation to their work environment and that appropriate ongoing training is provided
- Implement the performance management process for all staff which includes monitoring the performance of staff on an on-going basis and conducting an annual performance review
- Coach and mentor staff and volunteers to improve skills
- Discipline staff when necessary using appropriate techniques; release staff when necessary using appropriate and legally defensible procedures
- Ensure that staff and volunteer files are securely stored, and privacy/confidentiality is maintained
Financial Planning and Management
- Work with MCCO to prepare yearly budgets and sales targets
- Ensure that sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed
- Administer funds according to the approved budget and monitor monthly cash flow
- Provide comprehensive, regular reports on the revenues and expenditure of the business
Community Relations/Advocacy/Marketing
- Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the mission of the Raw Carrot
- Participate in marketing, public relations and communications (marketing / website / facebook / instagram / press relations)
Fundraising & Events
- Work with MCCO Donor Relations to support fundraising activities and event coordination, as appropriate
- Coordinate in-kind donations, corporate sponsorship, or investment as appropriate
Other
- Ensure employees adhere to company policies and legal regulations
- Ensure staff on your team comply with the risk management policy and procedures and foster a culture where risks are identified and mitigated.
- Ensure the support and direction necessary for the effective implementation of MCCO’s health and safety program are provided and, health and safety policies, procedures and regulations are enforced.

- Participate in MCCO orientations, provincial meetings, Peace Conference and Staff Development Day
- Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use personal gifts within this community and model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful interaction with others
- Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ’s unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and marginalized
- Answer inquiries about MCC from constituency and general public; communicate MCC’s values, articulating the importance of MCC’s criteria for workers, all of whom serve as representatives of the Mennonite and Be in Christ churches which support MCC
- Model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful daily interactions with staff and the public
