Description
This is a casual relief position with no guaranteed hours. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable
shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Operational hours of this facility are Saturday to Friday 7:00am to 6:00 pm.
This is a unionized facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under the direct supervision of the Cook, the Kitchen Helper will provide a service to the residents/clients with a high standard of cleanliness on a daily basis, assisting the Cook in a positive and supportive manner.
- Assist with food preparation and service, in accordance with the approved monthly menu.
- Ensure that food waste is kept to a minimum.
- Assist with checking and putting away food orders on arrival from suppliers.
- Clean meal dishes and all food preparation devices ensuring they are maintained to a high state of cleanliness. Ensure the kitchen, pantry and walk-in freezer/fridge is kept clean and organized at all times.
- On completion of all meals, ensure the dining room tables and chairs are washed and the dining area floor is cleaned.
- Ensure that proper safety precautions and hygiene standards are followed, including Universal Precautions.
- Treat all clients with respect and dignity at all times.
- Perform other position related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- The successful candidate will work within the mandate and mission of The Salvation Army, its policies and procedures, including Health and Safety.
- College diploma or Certificate of Food Management/Preparation, and/or a combination of education and life-related experience in the field of food preparation.
- Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
- Must have demonstrated ability to work both independently and under supervision.
- Possess current First Aid, CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates, and Food Handlers Certificate.
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- Be able to lift/move more than 20 pounds as required.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening and in addition to this The Enhanced Reliability Screening with Corrections Canada.
- An understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
