        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

Cuthbert House is an Open custody/ Open Detention residential facility for male youth between the ages of 12-17, who are involved in the criminal justice system. Residential Workers’ primary job is to provide supervision and maintain the safety the safety and security of the facility and everyone living in it. This position provides efficient, safe, and secure operation of an open custody facility through a high level of resident supervision and staff team support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise residents in the facility and in the community
  • Assume delegated responsibility for the facility when assigned
  • Complete duties, reports and logs as per shift description
  • Communicate and enforce facility rules while maintaining discipline and safety
  • Follow policies and procedures of Cuthbert House, The Salvation Army and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services
  • Support the Mission of The Salvation Army
  • Provide individual mentorship, guidance and advise to the youth
  • Challenge and address criminal conduct and thinking
  • Assist clients to address their criminogenic issues
  • Deal with serious incidents and crisis in a safe and therapeutic manner
  • Deal with interpersonal relationships within Cuthbert House in a therapeutic manner
  • Observe, assess and document residents’ behaviour and ongoing progress in a factual manner
  • Refer clients to outside resources and counselling when needed
  • Appear in court when necessary
  • Supervise the delivery of medication when required
  • Assure residents are provided with appropriate medical attention
  • Escort residents in a lawful, safe and expedient manner as required
  • Support clients in fulfilling their spiritual needs
  • Deliver group programming when required
  • Provide support and feedback to student placements
  • Complete sundry duties for required housekeeping and maintenance duties in the facility including training in safe food handling and preparation

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • A degree or diploma in Social Science, Corrections, Childcare or Social Services and related experience
  • Or working towards the completion of a degree or diploma in a post secondary institution
  • Knowledge of case management and correctional practices

Experience:

  • Related experience

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English, a second language considered an asset
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Able to keep calm in stressful situation
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
  • Passion and demonstrated ability to work with clients who have complex needs
  • Ability to build rapport
  • Ability to function within a team or in the community
  • Strong problem solving skills and well organized
  • Certificate in First Aid/CPR

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: Per scheduled provided every 6 weeks
