About the University Planning Office

The University Planning Office (UPO) manages the development and implementation of activities related to Ryerson University’s academic plan, enrolment planning, and academic budget planning. The UPO also undertakes policy research, survey research, data analysis, performance measurement, and institutional research project oversight for the university. As part of Ryerson’s accountability initiatives, the UPO has developed a series of performance indicators for the university and progress indicators for individual programs and academic units. This office also conducts surveys to learn about the student and graduate experience as it relates to Ryerson’s programs and services. The UPO liaises with the Office of the Provost and Vice-President, Academic, government officials, and other universities and organizations on a variety of issues including data reporting.


The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Research Analyst to join the University Planning Office. The Research Analyst generates information for financial and human resources decision support, planning and policy development, synthesizes and analyses qualitative and quantitative data, and prepares and presents written reports (including complex tables and charts). The role reports directly to the Director, Budgets and Institutional Research.

Responsibilities:

  • Uses computer programs and software systems for the accurate and efficient updating, tabulation, warehousing and dissemination of enrolment, financial and human resources decision support data and performance indicators.
  • Analyses and reports on student characteristics and other factors that inform academic policies.
  • Analyses and reports on survey results using spreadsheets, and statistical software, word processing and presentation software which may involve the use and development of scripts (e.g., Excel macros, SPSS scripts).
  • Develops memos, reports, and presentations in various formats, and consults with others on these activities as appropriate.
  • Undertakes special studies, research and analysis on various post-secondary policy issues as a basis for the preparation of proposals and submissions made to both internal and external groups.
  • Assists with the implementation of student survey projects, as well as managing survey data, conducting analyses, writing associated reports and making presentations on findings.
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type, as assigned.

Work Location:

This role is expected to work from home while Ryerson is operating on an essential services model due to COVID-19, until further notice. At that point, the role will then be required to work on campus or a combination of on campus and home.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a graduate degree in educational planning, social sciences, data analytics or in a related field. (e.g. management science, econometrics, information technology management). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience including experience using computer programs and software systems related to generation and dissemination of information for decision support, planning and policy development and demonstrated experience in understanding and evaluating quantitative information, including financial and statistical data/results. Experience in a higher education environment is an asset.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and the ability to produce high quality written reports is required.
  • Ability to produce high quality and succinct reports, tables/charts, and presentations.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills including the ability to convey technical or statistical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with survey implementation and analysis is an asset.
  • Familiarity with budgets and financial information is an asset.
  • Excellent administrative skills required including time and project management skills, interpersonal skills, creative problem solving skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet multiple competing deadlines.
  • Motivated to take on a diversity of tasks and learn new skills.
  • Working knowledge of statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS or R) is an asset, as is knowledge of data integration tools, structured programming languages, relational databases and business intelligence/analytics software.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Workspace, especially with spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel).
