The University of Regina is pleased to invite applications for the Research Associate Position in Policing, Justice and Corrections – Trends, Practices and Policy. The start date for the successful candidate is negotiable and may begin as early as June 1, 2021 or as late as September 1, 2021 for a term ending on June 30, 2022.

The Research Associate will work on original research related to trends and policy, practice and procedural changes in Policing, Justice and Corrections, and their effects on crime and on custodial and community corrections. The position is funded by the Economics of Policing and Corrections research program led by Dr Stuart Wilson as Principal Investigator. The direct time commitment for this position is 38 hours per week. This work may be conducted remotely, upon approval from the PI.

The University of Regina has campuses located in Regina and Saskatoon on Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 territories. These are the ancestral lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Dakota, Nakoda, and Lakota nations and the homeland of the Métis. The University of Regina supports a vibrant research community and is the home of various research institutes and centres including the Collaborative Centre for Justice and Safety, and the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research & Treatment. It also has strong provincial and federal partnerships with the RCMP Depot and F (Saskatchewan) Divisions, the Saskatchewan Police College, and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Have at minimum a Master’s degree in criminology, economics, or in related fields of inquiry.
  • Have knowledge of trends and of legal and policy developments in the field of corrections and the wider justice system.
  • Have exceptional oral and written communication and quantitative skills.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a team.
  • Be able to work independently, have excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Satisfy security screening clearance procedures with the Saskatchewan Government and/or for Statistics Canada RDCs.

Physical Demands Pay Grade CUPE Phase 5 Salary Range $55,000 plus benefits per annum Status Term Work Hours

38 hours per week for the duration of the contract.
