POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
Residential Support Worker’s main function is to provide support and assistance to residents and responsible for the smooth functioning of Kate Booth House.
HOURS: Saturday & Sunday 8:00am-3:30pm (Day Shift)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As part of a team, provide regularly scheduled shift coverage
- Participate in team meeting
- Participate in shift change
- Answer crisis line, telephone screening and intakes
- Record relevant shift information in appropriate logs and other necessary forms and reports
- Maintain with case workers smooth functioning of KBH while on shift
- Care of daily needs of residents
- facilitate evening programs
- Assist with food preparation for meals
- Provide crisis intervention if abuser locates KBH
- Mediate conflict/violence within the house if it occurs
- Be familiar with the KBH policies and procedures of service to residents
- Drive a resident to the hospital, or an appointment or when required
- Responsible to provide activities for the children when appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- A certificate, diploma, or degree in social services, or equivalent training in a related field.
- Valid First Aid/CPR level C and FOODSAFE Level 1 certificates
Experience:
- Minimum of two years working with victims of domestic violence.
- Experience in assisting professionals to intervene safely with domestic violence.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Relevant understanding of the situation of women who have experienced violence in their intimate relationships, and their children.
- Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation/training skills; ability assimilate information and communicate with various constituents.
- Comfort in bridging and collaborating with different agencies (e.g. Multicultural), ministry (e.g. MHSD) and lawyers.
- Must be comfortable in using the computer and other database programs.
- Valid BC driver’s license. (driver’s abstract required)
- Criminal Record Check for working with children and/or vulnerable adults.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people (e.g. race, ethnicity, age, class, sexual preference).
- Must have good conflict resolution skills.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
