Description
This is a permanent, part-time position based on 15 hours per week. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.
Shifts: Saturday to Sunday and some Statutory Holidays when required, 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
This is a Unionized position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct initial intake and screening of clients seeking admission
- Register clients into HIFIS database, assign bed and provide necessary toiletries
- Prepare and provide meal tickets and/or prepared bag lunches according to approved procedures
- Record activities and incidents shared communication log and incident report forms in an objective and concise manner
- Refer clients to case management, chaplain and program manager as needed
- Complete clerical tasks and provide direction to phone inquiries
- Contact emergency service personnel as needed, i.e. ambulance, COAST, police etc.
- Answer telephone and provide inquirer with necessary direction
- Maintain cleanliness of front desk area inside and out
- Provide clients with medication bins and return bins to secure medication cabinet
- Monitor security cameras and work closely with security and staff to resolve security concerns
- Complete incident and communication reports, statistics/cash report before completing shift
- Maintain confidentiality with regard to clients/staff and Centre’s records
- Work closely with and carry out tasks assigned to you by your supervisor
- When necessary call in relief workers according to procedures using on-call list
- Bed checks to be done according to approved procedures (nights)
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Post-Secondary Education in human services related field, i.e. Social Work, Social Services Worker, Community Service Worker, Addictions, Counseling, etc.
- Minimum of (1) year of prior related experience in front line social service work, and experience working with marginalized individuals.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, possess and exercise good interpersonal skills by displaying tact, courtesy and patience with clients, staff, visitors, and volunteers.
- Must have strong skills and experience using Windows, Microsoft Office, HIFIS and/or other case note software
- Ability to work with social disadvantaged people
- Ability to establish and implement goals and plans for self and clients
- Self-motivated and disciplined.
- Maturity and ability to exercise sound judgement and boundaries in a shelter environment
- Ability to work with marginalized clients that may harbor anger and resentment towards helping professions
- Ability to work both independently and under supervision
- Ability to lift/move 40 lbs. (18.14 kgs)
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of Community-based resources
- Possess current First Aid, NVCI and CPR certificates
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
- Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and the mission statement of The Salvation Army Booth Centre, Hamilton
