Duties

  • Generate new revenue streams by researching and implementing new business lines/products and establish agreements with new vendors.
  • Oversee technologies, including online retail, website, inventory management system and POS, printing equipment and ensure the areas up to date with technological innovations within the industry.
  • Oversee the marketing, merchandising, promotions, annual sales and displays.
  • Lead, hire, train, schedule and supervise employees.
  • Direct Campus Store buyers and Print Services Coordinator with purchasing budgets, inventory targets and revenue goals
  • Actively engage with VIU community in Nanaimo, Cowichan, Parksville, and Powell River campuses
  • Oversees all printing equipment and services on all campuses.
  • Ensure the Campus Store departments are up to date with the current retail trends.
  • Manage the financial performance, budget development, and suggest and implement ways to improve revenues.
  • Review, develop and maintain financial systems for accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash reconciliation and cash control.
  • Prepare month end and quarter end financial reports as well as year-end inventories.
  • Work with the Director, Ancillary Services on budget and strategic plans ensuring plans align with VIU’s strategic goals and vision.

Required Qualifications

Minimum five years’ experience managing a retail unionized environment.
Bachelors degree in business administration, management, or accounting from an appropriately accredited institution.

  • Skill in budget management, strategic planning, financial planning, auditing, and reporting
  • Experience with retail POS and inventory systems
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks in high-volume retail environment with deadlines and time constraints.
  • Proven ability to research and monitor current industry and market trends, interpret sales data, and develop more cost-efficient options for purchasing and improving procedures to increase efficiencies and revenues.
  • Experience developing workflow procedures and policies.
  • Experience with staff supervision, hiring, evaluation, training, scheduling, and managing in a union environment.
  • Competent computer skills and knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Knowledge of the post-secondary environment
