Science Education Fellow

The Office of Science Education (OSE) is seeking a candidate for a graduate student position related to teaching and learning in higher education to perform and organize activities that advance the goals and mandate of the Office of Science Education. This position is open to Master’s and Doctoral students who are interested in developing their knowledge of and skills in teaching and learning. The successful applicants will contribute to a range of activities currently undertaken by the Office of Science Education.

Job Summary: As the position is to support a variety of projects, specific roles and duties will vary depending on the project requirements. Generally, graduate student assistants will provide support for activities such as:

Designing workshops and other teaching support activities (e.g., webinars, brown bag sessions with guest speakers);

Developing program materials (manuals, contact lists, calendar of upcoming events);

Communicating with facilitators, speakers and/or participants;

Gathering and summarizing information used for planning and evaluation;

Performing statistical analysis and coding;

Preparing project documents and reports;

Updating support materials;

Designing and implementing data gathering instruments (e.g., interviews, surveys);

Advertising instructor support offerings and other activities.

Skills/abilities:
Excellent information literacy skills (i.e., ability to define research terms; search online databases, journals, websites; prepare annotated bibliographies; and critically evaluate resources)

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Teamwork, interpersonal and leadership skills

Ability to work in a PC environment using word processing and spreadsheet applications

Coding and programing experience

Registered McGill Graduate or Doctoral Student (Physics) preferred
