The Screener is responsible for screening individuals as they enter The Royal by asking questions to screen potential risk of COVID-19 exposure including recent travel history and health related status related to symptoms of COVID-19. This position does not provide medical advice or diagnoses. The role contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety polices are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers and clients/residents.
Duties:
Accountability #1: Screening duties
Screen all individuals as they enter for risks, symptoms and signs of COVID-19
Direct individuals as appropriate according to the outcome of the screening process – this may include advising individuals that they are not permitted to enter
Appropriately distribute PPE (ie. Masks) to all individuals
Ensure individuals entering the site are following proper precautionary measures
Follow the Screener Process and escalate uncooperative individuals to Security as required
Set up screening desk at beginning of shift and close/hand off at the end of shift
Ensure that confidentiality and privacy of all individuals is preserved
Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines, and organizational policies
Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place
Accountability #2: Other Duties
Participate in meetings as required
Assist with other activities to ensure that the hospital has an effective pandemic response
Perform other related duties as required
Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
Ensure a work environment that is conducive to the Royal’s Harassment-Free Workplace policy.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a High School diploma.
Experience and/or understanding of medical terminology and practices is an asset.
Minimum of one year experience in a customer service role or experience deemed to be equivalent.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact well with all levels of individuals and the community.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to listen, understand and respond appropriately to a wide range of individuals.
Ability to work well with others in an interdisciplinary team environment.
Ability to follow standards, processes and procedures. Some critical thinking skills required where deviations from the standard arise.
Capable of handling difficult or emotional conversations with tact and professionalism.
Must be self-motivated with the ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision.
Able to be thorough and probing with questioning as necessary.
