The salary range for this position is:
Recruitment range: $73,247 – $82,438 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
Performance range: starting salary to max of $95,743 is available through annual performance increases.
Job Summary
The Department of Theatre, home of the Phoenix Theatre, is a nationally acclaimed learning institution for theatre arts with a highly regarded focus on experiential, hands-on learning through the production process. The Phoenix Theatre Building includes three fully equipped theatre spaces, support shops and modern theatre equipment.
The Operations and Production Manager’s responsibilities include the administrative functions and requirements of the Department, and all production aspects of Department of Theatre activities.
Core responsibilities include:
Supervising of seven PEA staff members and one part-time CUPE position, with different job areas and descriptions.
Managing Department and Production budgets, including revenue from ticket sales, donations and sponsorships and expenditures.
Scheduling all instructional and production activity.
Maintaining and improving a complex facility with three fully equipped performance spaces and support shops, classrooms and offices.
Managing the production program, which includes public performances with an audience subscription base, and in-house projects forming part of the curriculum.
Providing instruction support for the Department of Theatre.
Serving as the Building Emergency Coordinator, and managing the Continuity and Emergency Plans.
This job requires normal office hours for teaching and administrative work related to university activities, plus evening and weekend work for rehearsals, and performances.
There will be an “on call” expectation during the academic year.
Job Requirements
Masters of Fine Arts degree in Theatre with a specialization in Production Management, or undergraduate degree in Theatre with a minimum of five years’ experience in a Canadian Professional Theatre work environment as a Production Manager or Technical Director, or extensive experience (10+ years) in a Canadian Professional Theatre work environment as a Production Manager or Technical Director, and
Three years teaching experience in the area of theatre production at a post-secondary level.
Experience and sound knowledge of financial management, including knowledge of Theatre production management, and long-term budget planning.
Experience with costing and evaluating, purchasing systems and procedures.
Ability to create and manage complex schedules with a variety of objectives.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge requirements include:
Theatre administration and production management best practices, including:
Stage direction
Stage management
Design and construction fields, scenery, props, costumes, lighting, sound, projections
Marketing and Communications
Box office and Front of House
Safety practices and guidelines in Arts and Entertainment fields
Knowledge of IATSE and CAEA contracts and agreements in the theatre industry
Academic objectives for Undergrad and Graduate programs in Theatre

Assets or Preferences:
Experience in a variety of theatre performance and production areas, such as acting, scenery construction, sound and lighting operation, stage management, stage crews, rigging experience, etc.
Work experience in other performing arts fields, such as operas, musicals, small and large-scale concerts and stage productions.
Experience as a general manager or high-level administrative position in a professional theatre company
Experience with CAD software
