Senior Coordinator, Education Kortright- Short-Term Contract Position (TRCA-173-21) Education and Training

How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Education, Kortright Centre for Conservation, the Senior Coordinator, Education, Kortright, is responsible for overseeing program development, determining equipment and supply needs, coordinating, and scheduling part time, contract and occasional education staff delivering Kortright education programs, events and initiatives. Overall, this position plays an integral role in developing, maintaining and enhancing Kortright education and public festivals, events and programs. This is achieved by ensuring environmental, renewable energy and sustainable technology, historical and recreational corporate sustainable communities objectives are met in programming offered.
Major Responsibilities:
- Coordinates, schedules and trains the part time staffing to support the delivery of Kortright education programs, public festivals, events and programs that support TRCA strategic plan and corporate objectives and align with Municipal service areas.
- Sources and arranges for contractors/vendors as required to successfully deliver Kortright programming, when the goods or service offered is outside of the scope of staff expertise or equipment of TRCA.
- Drafts partnership, vendor and contract agreements with appropriate costs and specifications for Kortright festivals, programming and events.
- Maintains program material and equipment inventory. Replaces, repairs or purchases required equipment for programs and events in need. Arranges effective storage of seasonal and daily use equipment.
- Ensures a high level of client services, establishes positive client relationships and customer service support. Liaises with clients on program details, business operations and program suitability to meet their needs and interests.
- Coordinates all aspects of events set up and tear down.
- Provides support to sales, promotions and marketing initiatives for Kortright education and public programs, including developing content for marketing materials and initiatives.
- Plan and coordinate Kortright Summer Nature Day Camp, Festivals and weekly Homeschool programming and staffing.
- Acts as a liaison providing information and updates to Summer Camp and Homeschool parents and caregivers.
- Monitor, track and ensure staff have or maintain current mandatory qualifications and certifications required for their role.
- Coordinates part time, full time, contract and occasional staff work schedules, vacation requests and assigning overtime as required.
What you will need to succeed:
- Post-Secondary Degree or equivalent in education, environmental management or recreation management, science or equivalent field.
- Valid Ontario “G” Drivers License and access to a vehicle.
- Active and current First Aid and CPR certificate.
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Screening is required for this position.
- Three (3) years’ experience performing environmental education activities at an outdoor education facility.
- Three (3) years supervision and staff scheduling experience.
- Planning, developing and evaluating environmental education and related festivals/events, programs and activities.
- Thorough knowledge of and familiarity with current Outdoor and Environmental Education concepts, issues, trends, practices and techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge of school board policies, procedures and student curriculum expectations.
- Familiarity and working knowledge of risk management concepts with a focus on an outdoor setting.
- Strong working knowledge of and ability to effectively use Microsoft Office (word, excel, power point), Arcview GIS software, staff scheduling software, POS software.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets including forecasting future financial targets and managing, tracking and reporting on budget in the current fiscal year.
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex information and communicate this information effectively in a variety of formats.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and direct assigned staff in accordance with corporate policies and procedures and externally imposed standards and regulations.
- Excellent financial management, project management, time management, organizational, analytical, research, communication, presentation, problem solving and leadership skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with the general public in a positive, courteous and respectful manner.
