What you’ll do:
As a Line Manager (30%)
Develop, coach, motivate and inspire employees to achieve their fullest potential
Talent management and leadership development of study management resources
Ensure performance development management and personal development of employees
Ensure compliance with ethics, policies and standard procedures
Co-located and virtual line management of Directors, Study Management
SM Late Department strategy, goals and priorities (20%)
Work with the SM Late LT team to shape, communicate and embed the key strategic priorities for the function and identify near-term and annual priorities for the team
Manage overall process for setting of annual functional departmental goals and scorecard(s), including tracking and regular updates, to ensure delivery through the year
Accountable for SM contribution, oversight and, if applicable, leadership of strategic and high
priority non-drug projects and other initiatives
Ensure effective functioning of the Study Management (SM) Leadership Team (LT).
Leads business and financial planning for the function
Identifies external industry trends and capabilities and novel technologies and evolutionary processes to meet the specific challenges in SM Late and across functions
Manages the FTE and capacity process for SM Late and core member of DevOps capacity management team (led by BPO)
Portfolio and Programme Management (20%)
Occasionally lead, as appropriate, improvement and cross-functional initiatives related to project/portfolio management, governance, analytics, strategic planning processes, SM Late technology/systems, organization design, information management and enterprise ways of working / productivity improvement
Prepare briefing materials and research analysis as required to support head of function for key business decisions, meetings and projects
Actively monitors the performance of the portfolio (e.g. KPIs) and implements continuous improvement practices to deliver business goals
Ensures correct skills and capabilities and appropriate capacity both internally and externally, are in place to ensure portfolio delivery
Serves as senior stakeholder for issue escalation and empowers and enables teams and leaders to identify solutions and supports their resolution
Engagement & Communications (30%)
Work with the SM Late LT team to shape, communicate and embed the key strategic priorities for the function and identify near-term and annual priorities for the team
In collaboration with the communication lead(s), develops an effective communication plan to drive the understanding of Biopharma strategy within the function and externally with key stakeholders
Drive strong engagement in SM through the development and implementation of a strong communications strategy and delivery of employee events across hubs
Support the leadership team in preparation of town hall materials and functional reviews
Essentials qualifications:
University degree or equivalent preferably in life science
At least 5 years’ experience in Pharmaceutical Industry in Clinical Development, Study Management and Study Operations
At least 10 years Pharmaceutical industry experience with extensive knowledge of clinical and pharmaceutical drug development process
Proven team leadership expertise, preferentially having led a large global group including identifying and providing opportunities to improve the capabilities of other people
Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, resources, targets and project initiatives in a global environment, risk and crisis management experience
Manages change with a positive approach to the challenges of change for self, team and the business. Sees change as an opportunity to improve performance and add value to the business
Is aware of cultural differences and their impact on communication, expectations and performance and has an inclusive leadership style
Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
Desirable for the role:
Experience working internationally: working with major markets/resolution of international issues
Scientific background, preferentially having worked across multiple therapeutic areas in development
Business planning skills: has knowledge/experience of planning processes used in leading drug projects
Proven enterprise leadership, consistently challenging the status quo and promoting motivation and empowerment in others
