About Us

Role

We are looking for someone who demonstrates an ability to develop collaborative relationships, conducts strong policy analysis, and frames advice on strategic and sensitive policy issues as part of a portfolio that is responsible for intergovernmental activities impacting Community Social Services and Children Services.

Reporting to the Director of Intergovernmental Relations Branch you will have a variety of responsibilities including participation in federal/provincial committee work, supporting and/or leading departmental projects and/or aspects of projects, as they interface with intergovernmental issues. The position provides advice to management and executive in a timely and accurate way and may lead, participate, and support a wide range of committees at a federal/provincial/territorial level, including working groups and advisory committees related to Indigenous children and youth, early learning and child care, poverty, social innovation, and disabilities issues. The position is also responsible for the preparation of briefing materials to support Minister and Deputy Minister participation in the Forum of Ministers Responsible for Social Services as well as supporting Ministers and Deputies in the Housing Forum and Early Learning and Child Care.

As the perfect candidate for this role, your background should include experience in the following areas:

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to make connections between different issues and consider impacts over the longer term.
  • Exceptional relationship building skills and the ability to work with internal clients and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills to prepare and present clear advice through briefing materials, in response to action requests, and in meetings.
  • Excellent analytical skills to research and provide an accurate and thorough analysis including recommendations.
  • Proven agility and time management skills to work effectively within tight timelines in a politically sensitive environment.

Qualifications

A post-secondary degree in a related field (e.g., education, social sciences, business, or economics) with a minimum 4 years of related experience.

Preference will be given to those with sound knowledge and experience in the following areas:

Clear understanding of the functions and responsibilities played by intergovernmental relations including FPT relations, protocol, provision of advice, negotiating agreements, working with human rights instruments, etc.

Demonstrated success in driving for results in intergovernmental fora or other policy work.

Strong relationship-building skills to establish credibility, balance diverse intergovernmental perspectives and expectations, and the ability to communicate constructive advice with tact and sensitivity.

Aptitude for problem-solving and decision-making, as well as mature judgement, tact, and diplomacy particularly in intergovernmental contexts.

Strategic thinker – able to identify emerging issues, see how things fit together in the “big picture “and creatively use available information.

Extensive knowledge of federal/provincial/territorial organizational policies and social policy issues in the intergovernmental arena.

Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Salary

$2,803.40 to $3,674.86 bi-weekly:
