The Opportunity
Rocky View Schools is seeking an outstanding professional for a continuing, full-time (35 hours per week) Senior Manager of Transportation position starting September 1, 2021. The Senior Manager of Transportation under the general supervision of the Associate Superintendent of Business and Operations is responsible for the operation, supervision and management of student transportation system in accordance with Board policy and provincial legislation. In addition, the director is responsible for the transportation of students under contracted services to other local School Divisions. This position is located at the Education Center in Airdrie, Alberta. A valid Alberta Motor Vehicle License will be required.
Responsibilities
Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operation of the transportation department and related services provide to the School Division
Manages the contracted operators with and parent provided transportation
Prepare and oversee the annual department budget
Prepare government reports required for transportation grant claims
Liaises with contracted operators to ensure appropriate communication and information flow is occuring
Maintain records on school routes, contracted operators and student passengers
Perform safety reviews on routes and school drop-off and pick-up locations
Review and approve invoices from transportation contractors and parents provided transportation
Act as liaison with school principals on all transportation matters
Ensure all transportation safety requirements are met
Assist in the preparation of transportation admin procedures and policies
Assist the Associate Superintendent of Business and Operations in the preparation of and the selection of contractors for new school bus routes
Answer all enquires from parents, drivers, school staff or the public regarding transportation or transportation related concerns
Meet with parents, school staff, bus drivers and local trustees to prepare inclement weather procedure
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible student transportation
Minimum three to five years successful experience in leadership and supervisory roles
Experience working with senior management preferred
Experience working in the public sector with a preference for those in K-12 experience
A combination of relevant education and years of experience will be considered
