SENIOR POLICY ADVISOR

Look no further as the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, Intellectual Property Secretariat with the Data, Research, and Innovation Division is looking for an individual with well-developed policy and project management skills to lead projects and provide policy and program planning, development and implementation expertise for an assigned ministry program area.

What can I expect to do in this role?

  • Lead and undertake all aspects of policy and program planning and development
  • Lead, coordinate, and undertake policy research and analysis
  • Develop critical stakeholder relationships
  • Research and coordinate information from various sources to respond to information requests
  • Develop comprehensive and sound policy proposals that integrate a range of fiscal and governance factors

How do I qualify?

Policy and Program Development and Analysis Skills

  • You have knowledge of policy and program development principles and techniques and government legislative/decision making processes.
  • You can interpret and understand relevant provincial legislation, strategic and policy issues to develop comprehensive policy proposals.
  • You have knowledge of program analysis and evaluation techniques and risk assessment to assess impacts of new or changed policies and program and make recommendations.

Research, Project Management and Analytical Skills

  • You have research and project management skills to plan/conduct qualitative/quantitative research studies, analyse trends, governance, and fiscal best practices, options, costs, and impacts.
  • You have analytical and problem-solving skills to assess qualitative and quantitative information, critically analyze policy and program proposals and analyze competing stakeholder interests.

Communication, Relationship Management, Consultation and Computer Skills

  • You have effective oral and written communication and presentation skills to respond to issues, provide recommendations, prepare reports, options papers, economic analyses, Cabinet submissions, briefing materials and correspondence, to represent the ministry/province on intergovernmental task forces.
  • You have experience using standard computer software programs and tools to research and prepare own materials.
  • You have consultation, partnership building, relationship management and consensus-building skills to establish key stakeholder linkages across the organization, resolve issues, and develop a coordinated position on policy issues.
