This position is located in our office in Ottawa, Ontario. As a result of the global pandemic, NSERC and SSHRC employees are currently working remotely. When the current situation reverts, the successful candidate would normally be required to report and work onsite from the Ottawa office. Please note that the candidate is responsible for any relocation fees. The employer will not accept any expense claims.
The results of this competition may be used to staff similar term or indeterminate positions within SSHRC, NSERC and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

Job Summary
Provides corporate leadership, coordination and advice to senior management in strategic planning, policy analysis, development of policy positions, international activities and in response to certain external reporting requirements of significant scope. Responsible for coordinating activities and managing projects that are unique, complex, and of significant scope, often demanding action and results within a constrained time frame. Responsibilities require original contributions as well as coordination of multiple sources of input from across NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR and/or Tri-council as well as the broader stakeholder community.
Statement of Qualifications
Education
Degree from a recognized university, preferably in the social sciences and humanities.
A graduate degree in any discipline, or training in public administration would be an asset.
Foreign Credential Validation against Canadian Standards
Experience
Significant experience in planning, organizing and performing research and policy analysis related to S&T and/or higher education.
Significant experience in the coordination/facilitation of consultations, working groups or task forces.
Experience in program management.
- Significant is equivalent to three (3) or more years of experience.
Knowledge
Substantial knowledge of Canadian policy related to S&T and international S&T relations
Substantial knowledge of SSHRC’s mandate, corporate structure, programs, research community, strategic priorities and policies
Substantial knowledge of the policies, funding structures, trends and challenges related to university research and training
Substantial knowledge of the Canadian political and public policy process
Abilities
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, plan, manage, negotiate and control diverse projects, including contracts with external consultants, under tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills to network, collaborate and negotiate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders including superiors, peers and subordinates.
Strategic and critical thinking skills, ability to analyze and synthesize complex and technical written material on a wide range of subjects, write reports and recommend appropriate options based on available evidence.
