The Network Planning and Investment Branch of the Ministry of Highways is seeking a highly-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to take on the role of Senior Project Manager in charge of Regional Planning.
As part of the Regional Planning and Development Unit, key responsibilities of the role include Implementing the Ministry’s regional planning strategy by:
Working directly with municipalities to develop long-range regional transportation plans;
Providing a regional perspective to general location and functional planning studies;
Managing multiple complex projects, including consultant commissions;
Developing and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders such as joint regional/district planning committees and provincial infrastructure providers in order to deliver Branch programs and services.
Developing solutions to regional transportation issues, including the investigation of potential truck routes and bypasses;
Conducting regional traffic assessments; including traffic volume and collision data;
Developing briefing material, including briefing notes, fact sheets, memos, and decision items;
Identifying funding sources for recommended projects, including municipal and federal funding programs; and
Giving presentations in a public forum to a variety of audiences.
Travel throughout the province may occasionally be required.
The candidate of choice will have applied knowledge of project management and transportation engineering with particular emphasis on transportation planning, and the ability to:
develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and build commitment through collaboration;
effectively communicate verbally and in writing technical information to a wide variety of audiences;
apply in-depth knowledge and understanding of business planning and accountability practices; and
provide input to help formulate corporate priorities.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this job would be achieved through a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or equivalent with extensive experience in a related field. The successful candidate will be immediately eligible for registration in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
