Description
To assist immigrants and refugees in completing the necessary application forms and navigating the appropriate immigration processes for family reunification in Canada.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Characteristic Job Duties:
High volume case management duties including:
- Use of participant intake questionnaire and supporting documents to help participants complete IRCC application forms.
- Assistance with IRCC letters. Supporting participants in understanding next steps as requested by IRCC, embassies, or consulates.
- Provide assistance with policy clarification, application extension requests, submitting electronic application forms, or communication between IRCC and the participant.
- Determine IRCC application eligibility criteria and policy research for immigration application types supported by program.
- Facilitating intake and policy workshops, guiding participants in filling out main application form and intake questionnaire, answering common questions, and providing clarity about eligibility criteria.
- Directing email, phone calls, walk ins, and referral requests for appointments/ new intakes to appropriate intake workshop or to next available appointment date for existing participants.
- Performing administrative duties such as maintaining the participant database, submitting monthly activity reports, and returning closed case files to participants.
- Working closely with Halifax Refugee Clinic, ISANS, Refugee Sponsorship Training Program, and other newcomer serving organizations to direct participants to supports; and
- Training and supporting interns and volunteers in relevant case work.
Empowering participants by:
- Utilizing an adult education framework to assist newcomers in advocating for their own immigration needs and navigating IRCC policy guidelines.
- Teaching them to use IRCC web portals to complete their own application status checks, submit supplementary documents and required application forms, update their address and contact information, and locate application processing times; and
- Supporting them in drafting correspondence to IRCC for participants to submit.
Facilitation of English café conversation program including:
- Room set up, take down and clean up
- Liaise with community stakeholders and recruit new volunteers and participants
Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education Level Attained:
University degree in Arts/Social Sciences.
Note: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
Desired professional Skills/Experience:
Excellent English language verbal and written communication skills, high volume case management experience, facilitating programming for newcomers to Canada, experience navigating community services, immigration policy navigation, and public speaking.
Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:
Sitting at a desk
Setting up and clearing away tables and chairs
Work Environment:
Office work
Meetings at other locations in HRM
Working Conditions:
12-month contract
35hrs/wk.
