        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

This is a Full Time Permanent position.  Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – weekend and evening work will be required.  This is a regular full-time position based on 40 hours per week. The regular hours of work are 4:30pm to 1:00 am, Saturday to Wednesday. This includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards Act of Ontario and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods and overtime compensation.  Salary is based on average minimum 40 hours per week. Hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount.

Normal location of work is at 94 York Blvd, Hamilton, ON.

This is a unionized facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a member of the management team as it pertains to day-to-day delivery of services.
  • Provide oversight and supervision of Social Service Staff and the day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure that duties assigned are completed in an appropriate, safe, and efficient manner.
  • Has input and participates in the hiring, orientating, and evaluating of staff.
  • During shift, provide support and supervision of staff.
  • Responsible for completing the scheduling of staff.
  • Chair daily shift changes to ensure proper transmission of information from one shift to another.
  • Provide oversight to Diversion Program and completion of Case Management processes.
  • Monitor and review program staff communication logs.
  • Provide statistical and evaluative information to management when required.
  • Identify staff training requirements and make recommendations regarding staff development.
  • Responsible to work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Acts and Regulations.
  • Participate in all Health & Safety related accidents and injury investigations.
  • Rotational on-call duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • NOTE: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Completed Undergraduate University degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including experience in a residential setting, experience in supervision, leadership, coaching, and motivating staff and working with marginalized clientele.
  • Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification and CPR/First Aid Certification would be an asset.
  • Required to provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Be able to obtain Corrections Canada clearance through the Enhanced Reliability Screening process.
  • Rotational on-call duties.
