Position Purpose

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Shop floor & Building Maintenance Planning Manager plays a key role in the building and shop equipment maintenance team. The incumbent will lead, manage and coach a team of four technicians, including one welder, one machinist and two tinsmiths, and will also act as the building maintenance team’s planner.

The Shop floor & Building Maintenance Planning Manager will work with their colleagues to manage, develop and perform manufacturing work while developing a maintenance plan for the building department based on a vision and culture of continuous improvement. They will suggest improvements to maintenance management performance, define priorities, implement industry best practices and develop performance indicators inherent to their sector. They will also enforce policies and procedures on the ground, particularly with regard to health and safety, quality and the environment.

Responsibilities

As building maintenance planner and shop floor supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for planning work in the building and supervising and scheduling work on the shop floor.

As the building maintenance planner, the incumbent will: Plan work in the building and manufacturing sectors

  • Create a work plan with the Building Maintenance & Utilities Manager to optimize the building maintenance team’s work
  • Ensure parts, equipment and resources are available to perform various kinds of work
  • Plan work during annual shutdowns by working closely with the Building Maintenance & Utilities Manager and the production and engineering departments
  • Understand planned tasks, develop knowledge in collaboration with technicians and the Director of Building Maintenance and Utility Services
  • Order parts for the building team through SAP work orders
  • Actively participate in various planning meetings

As shop floor supervisor, the candidate will: Work alongside their colleagues in maintenance and engineering to ensure work performed under them is optimized for maximum efficiency

  • Optimize operations and meet demands by monitoring work performed by machinists, welders and tinsmiths
  • Organize, assign and dispatch work orders by level of priority
  • Create and track shop floor performance indicators
  • Steer, lead and coach the team to develop employee autonomy and accountability
  • Order materials for their manufacturing team through SAP MyShop

Responsibilities related to occupational health and safety, the environment and quality

  • Identify and monitor risks by actively participating in risk management and by ensuring all controls are fully implemented
  • Promote safe behaviours while performing work
  • Ensure their own safety and that of their colleagues and the public
  • Adopt environmentally responsible behaviour
  • Comply with applicable procedures, laws and regulations
  • Enforce compliance with quality standards and procedures
  • Understand the impact of their work on product quality and contribute to improving the efficiency of our processe

Qualifications & Experience

  • DCS in mechanics or bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • At least 3-5 years’ professional experience in a maintenance position in the manufacturing industry
  • Experience in a unionized work environment
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical and manufacturing techniques
  • Experience in the consumer products sector an asset

  • Strong knowledge of and background using maintenance management systems (SAP PM) an asset

  • Action-oriented with practical experience; professional courage to tackle issues head-on and ability to deal with inherent discrepancies and persevere when faced with difficulties
  • Comfortable functioning and managing in a computerized environment; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiar with the philosophy behind maintenance management software
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, machining techniques, tinsmithing and welding
  • Good command of French and English, written and spoken
