Special Education Technician

POSITION

Champlain College Saint-Lambert is seeking the services of a SPECIAL EDUCATION TECHNICIAN, to work on a full-time replacement position in the Student Access Centre (Adaptive Services) within the Student Services department.

FUNCTIONS

Reporting to the Dean, Student Services, the incumbent will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in Student Services in applying special education techniques and methods within the context of an intervention plan or, a program intended for students requiring special support.

1. Support students in their learning and in certain activities according to her/his competencies, develop and adapt the necessary tools for the interventions and uses communication techniques adapted to their needs.

2. Together with the student, and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, participate in the preparation and writing of the intervention plan; select measures to be taken to achieve the objectives determined in the intervention plan, prepare the action plan and apply these measures.

3. Evaluate achievement of the objectives and participate in the evaluation of the plan.

4. Apply intervention techniques that favour the restoration of calm and order; coach students in their behaviour modification process, support teachers to favour an environment conducive to learning.

5. Meet the students and the personnel concerned to sensitize, advise and inform them and provide them with the relevant documentation and referrals. If necessary, communicate with external organizations.

6. Record observations and interventions, keep records and write reports.

7. Participate in the development and animation of workshops and activities to assist students with social integration, perseverance, retention strategies and the use of special technology.

8. May be called upon to coordinate the work of support personnel involved in programs for which she / he is responsible and to train them.

9. Work with the department on other initiatives as required

Requirements :
EDUCATION

To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in Special Care Counselling or, a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

COMPETENCIES

Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Strong French comprehension skills.

Must be proficient with Microsoft Word.

Other requirements

Must be discrete, confidential and professional.

Must have strong organizational skills.

Must be a team player and student centered.

Required Tests : The candidates will be required to submit to language tests in English and French as well as Word tests.

Work Schedule : 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00pm* hours subject to change based on departmental and student needs

Duration of contract : At the latest, until the return of the incumbent

Salary Scale : 23.12$ – 33.61$
