The Team:

Consent Comes First: The Office of Sexual Violence Support and Education works with Ryerson community members (students, staff, faculty, alumni) affected by sexual violence. We also provide education, training and advocacy with the wider campus community. Our services are available to all members of the Ryerson community including students, staff, faculty and alumni regardless of when and where the violence occurred.

We believe that people affected by sexual and gender-based violence should guide the process and we are here to provide options in a trauma-informed way. We recognize that people are impacted differently based on varied and interlocking oppressions. How people experience, heal from, and address sexual violence is shaped by the multitude of social locations e.g. class, sexuality, citizenship status and gender expression.

The Opportunity

The Specialist will be the next leader to join our team in Consent Comes First, the Office of Sexual Violence, Support and Education, working with people affected by sexual violence and fostering transformative change on campus. The successful candidate will support the coordination of awareness and education reinforce the university’s commitment to fostering a safe, healthy, supportive environment for all community members under the guidance of the Manager, Consent Comes First. This role delivers appropriate intake and support for gender-based violence survivors at the University. The candidate will co-lead the development, implementation and delivery of a peer-to-peer, sexual violence survivor advocates program that reflects the community’s diversity.

Qualifications

To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

  • Completion of a University degree in Social Work, Gender Studies, Health Promotion, Nursing, Education or related field required;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Social Work or related experience in frontline, trauma-informed work with sexual violence survivors, intake and referral, and case management;
  • Demonstrated experience with providing people affected by sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence with options related to safety and justice, and assessing personal, legal and social needs. Must have experience working with a broad range of equity-seeking groups impacted by sexual violence;
  • Knowledgeable in current laws, legislation, research and best practices in the area of sexual violence, gender-based violence, education, sexual health and bystander intervention;
  • Strong ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners. Strong people skills in order to manage key relationships and personnel;
  • Demonstrated experience in community development in a not-for-profit and/or post-secondary environment will be considered an asset;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and under strict deadlines;
  • Experience engaging and managing education initiatives with social media
  • Proficiency in accessible resource creation for a variety of audiences;
  • Strong skills in project coordination including the implementation and coordination of sexual violence education activities, peer programming and service delivery;
  • As well as advanced knowledge in the use of Google apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) and social media applications (Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc.).
  • Fluency in languages other than English an asset.
