Job Description
An exciting and challenging opportunity exists for a Temporary, Full-Time Storesperson with the City of Kamloops until approximately September 3, 2021. This position is responsible for purchasing, receiving, cycle counting, issuing stock, storing delivered goods, organizing stock and operating powered equipment for the purpose of storing material. This position is also responsible for the safe and secure storage of Stores material and the efficient utilization of storage space.

Typical duties of this position include:

  • Electronically receives all incoming shipments of equipment and material into JD Edwards, signs packing slips, and checks the quality and quantity. Notes discrepancies, short shipments, and damage and informs the buyer of any issues.
  • Unpacks and stores material and equipment delivered to Stores as required.
  • Picks up parts and supplies from suppliers as required.
  • Issues stock to City employees as required, and records usage on the computer.
  • Assembles orders and delivers urgently needed material to the job site as requested by a Crew Leader or Supervisor.

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  1. Completion of senior secondary school or its equivalent.
  2. Valid BC Driver’s Licence – Class 5 (or equivalent).
  3. Minimum one year’s relevant experience in a computerized stores environment within the past five years.
  4. Completion of a minimum of two courses within SCMA – Supply Management Training or completion of Level 2 Parts and Warehousing program through an ITA recognized institution or its equivalent.
  5. Proficient in basic Word and basic Excel as demonstrated through testing. A 70% pass rate is required.

For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check. This position will receive 14% in lieu of all benefits, vacation, stat holidays, and health time.
