Job Summary

Student Affairs is a collection of integrated units that collaborates with faculty, staff and students to enhance the student experience. We promote an inclusive, holistic and student-centric approach to learning and academic success and act as a professional resource in the delivery of evidence-based student enrolment, wellness, development and academic support programs and services. Reporting to the Manager, Student Conduct, the Student Conduct Administrator will be responsible for the fair and consistent application of the Residence Code of Conduct on the Halifax campuses, working in a time-sensitive manner with a student-focused and educational approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, investigate and make decisions on Residence Code of Conduct violations and applicable sanctions. Ensure compliance to the Residence Code of Conduct.
  • Manage the response to student behavioural issues in residence by providing strategies for addressing behaviour and the coordination of student referrals to appropriate university support services as required.
  • Oversee all activities related to assigned allegations of misconduct, ensuring they are investigated and managed according to policy. This includes meeting with applicable stakeholders, preparing documentation, consulting on decision making, and coordinating resources and support post-decision.
  • Collaborate with campus partners in Human Rights, Equity and Harassment Prevention, Security Services, and Legal Services when student conduct involves several jurisdictions, consulting with the Manager, Student Conduct as required.
  • Ensure accurate data is available to support the tracking and reporting of key performance indicators and/or metrics. This includes updating appropriate databases and maintaining detailed and accurate records.
  • Develop and facilitate training (e.g. workshops, information sessions, lectures, presentations) on topics such as conflict mediation, leadership, hazing, consent, and alcohol culture for residence staff and students living in residence.

Note

Flexible hours and schedule may be periodically required depending on the volume of Residence Code violations.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. criminal justice, social work or health promotion) plus approximately five years’ progressive related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Experience may be in areas such as student affairs/behaviour management, criminal justice, social work, investigative decision making, or policy enforcement. Experience supporting students in a post-secondary environment preferred. Must be a proven administrator with experience managing multiple, rapidly shifting priorities that are time sensitive. A people focused approach with strong communication (oral and written) skills is essential. Must have experience managing sensitive and confidential information, as well as strong data management skills. Proven commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion with intercultural competence is required.
