Job Description:
Student – General Labourers (GLs) can be assigned to work performing a cleanup task up to groups of five for larger jobs. Tasks include sweeping, shoveling, vacuuming, scraping with a long-handled or small hand scraper, blowing with a pressure wand, and hosing. GLs clean in a wide range of areas including under and around machinery, equipment and conveyors, on roof tops and amongst wiring and piping. Jobs may be brief, such as cleaning up a small spill with a shovel and wheelbarrow, or full shift, such as blowing dust from walls, cables, pipes and gaps in equipment. Approximately half the clean-up involves sweeping. Infrequent heavier jobs include cleaning at the bottom of a bucket elevator, shoveling large spills, hosing gutters on the dock, scraping screens from the cleaning machines with a hand scraper, and cleaning the turn head which involves shoveling and vacuuming heavy grain in a bent, constricted posture.
This Full Time – Temporary position is located in North Vancouver, BC; however please expect receiving calls from a 204 area code in case you are considered. Relocation assistance is not provided.
Required:
- Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
- Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Must be able to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders, open/close valves, shoveling, pounding with hammer and work in confined spaces
- Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including a respirator
- Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)
- Must be able to operate machinery and/or industrial equipment
- Must be able to read/write English
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work overtime, holidays, nights, weekends or different shifts
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
- Prior experience in production related work
- Basic computer and typing skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word
