Student Recruitment Assistant, Indigenous, Student and Enrolment Services

Position Overview

The Recruitment team within Student and Enrolment Servics is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Student Recruitment Assistant, Indigenous.

This position reports to the Coordinator, National Student Recruitment and works in collaboration with the Student Recruitment Advisor, Indigenous to provide support for inquiries while the Student Recruitment Advisor, Indigenous engages with prospective Indigenous students, counsellors, and community members in community. These activities would include triaging inquiries, providing a variety of information to students, responding to student e-mails and phone calls, assisting high school counsellors and other stakeholders with key information related to the Indigenous portfolio. This position will also conduct digital outreach activities to support recruitment and conversion efforts through one-on-one meetings and targeted call campaigns. This position may also support and participate in digital recruitment events within the Indigenous portfolio.

Secondly, this position will support the Admission and Recruitment team to support Indigenous applicants throughout the application process with a focus on ensuring required documents are submitted in a timely manner.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Provides informational services (in groups, in person, on the phone, social media, via email) to prospective Indigenous students, families, and guidance counsellors

Presentations to varied audiences (in-person or digital)

Communicates information pertaining to the University of Calgary in an accurate, timely, and honest manner

Detailed Knowledge of the University of Calgary’s programs, services, enrolment policies and procedures is ensured

Provides pre-screening of application credentials to facilitate the application and admission process along with referrals to other relevant areas (Continuing Education, Faculty of Graduate Studies, the Writing Symbols Lodge, etc.)

Assisting the Student Recruitment Advisor, Indigenous with ensuring that e-mail and phone queries are responded to in a timely fashion

Specifically supports the Indigenous Recruiter e-mail account

Assisting the Student Recruitment Advisor, Indigenous by conducting targeted e-mail or phone campaigns to engage with prospective or incoming Indigenous students.

Assisting the Student Recruitment Team with the distribution of Indigenous recruitment materials

Qualifications / Requirements:
Post-secondary education in a related field is preferred

Demonstrated knowledge of the organizational structure of the University of Calgary with regard to such factors as location, student population and academic programs is considered an asset

Ability to manage change and demonstrate success in leading change initiatives

Strong written and oral communication skills

Demonstrated proficiency with technology with a specific focus on virtual fair platforms, online presentation tools, and CRM tools such as EzRecruit

Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse groups of people

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, colleagues, school administrators, officials and representatives

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure, team-based environment and meet deadlines

Demonstrated knowledge of the Treaty 7 territory and/or an established working relationship with Treaty 7 communities are considered an asset.

Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with Indigenous Peoples and alongside Indigenous communities including Elders and Traditional Knowledge Keepers

Demonstrated understanding of the cultural knowledge and communication skills required to connect with Indigenous students, schools and communities

Willing to work evenings and weekends as required
