Description
Oversee and coordinate Shelter Lounge activities and support Shelter Workers.
HOURS:
- Flexibility in hours is expected & work may include evenings and weekends.
- 8 weeks, 3 positions available.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Willingness & ability to work within the mission, vision & values of The Salvation Army and Ridge Meadows Ministries.
- Support, where and when possible, the efforts of all residents and co-workers.
- Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect and empathy in the administration of policies and procedures.
- Plan and organize social and connection activities for Shelter guests.
- Maintain consistent structure in the Shelter lounge.
- Update client files and case notes in the data entry system.
- Assist Shelter Workers and Case Workers as required.
- Attend Public Relations events as requested.
- Give guidance, support, and encouragement to volunteers.
- Organize and restock supplies.
- Maintain volunteer “contact list” and keep accurate records (ie number of guests, number of meals, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Possess valid Food Safe, CPR, First Aid, and Non-Violent Crisis certification or willingness to obtain.
- Computer and word processing ability.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public with effective communication skills.
- Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions.
- Team-oriented and able to take initiative with the ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Agreeable to a flexible, non-routine schedule.
- High standards of integrity and confidentiality.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- A current valid BC driver’s license and clean driving record.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- Clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
