        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

To assist in the operations of collecting and processing donations and selling goods in the Thrift Store, practicing good stewardship of our donated resources. The store clerk will provide service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists the manager in the maintenance of all store operations.

Hours

  • 35 hours a week after school is finished.  While in school the individual will work Saturdays. No Sunday work. Total 280 hours of work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Replenish inventory levels based on the supervisor’s directions.
  • Process donated household items by unloading, sorting, placing, and loading donated items.
  • Sort donated clothing by evaluating the condition of items, hang and prices good condition clothing.
  • Contribute to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring.
  • Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage, and maintains store cleanliness).
  • Take responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.
  • Accurate opening and closing of store procedures when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Social distancing guidelines in place.
  • Assist to manage customers so they are safe by reminding them to sanitize hands and ensure the mask is worn at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/certifications

  • 15-30 years old and plan to return to school (an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable).
  • Good listening, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivation and discipline.

Experience

  • Up to three (3) months prior experience, including life skills.

Required skills/knowledge

  • Heavy lifting: able to lift to 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with others.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written.
  • Good listening, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with customers, peers, staff, and volunteers.
