Job Description

Northyards Cider.Co

Our flourishing craft cider company recently purchased an orchard in Salmon Arm, and we’re opening a new tasting room where people come to enjoy our orchard to glass and picnic experience. We are seeking an experienced, and motivated tasting room and operation manager to plan and lead pre-opening duties and be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the tasting room, patio and guest experiences. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of craft beverage and/or restaurant operations, excellent customer service skills, leadership, retail knowledge and a passion for cider.

The applicant should be a team-oriented leader. The candidate will work collaboratively with the Cidermaker, the Orchard Manager, and the ownership team to meet company objectives. As a leader of the tasting room, the candidate will be responsible for recruitment, training and coaching of staff members.

In the off-season, the tasting room manager may be tasked with involvement in other parts of the business. This may include cider production, marketing, orchard management and/or logistics, based on interest, skills, and needs.

The responsibilities of this position include amongst other things:

Leadership

Staff management. This includes hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, performance review and supervision of tasting room staff.

Administrative tasks. This includes daily cash out and reconciliations, and inventory management.

Atmosphere management. Maintaining a friendly, warm, clean tasting room environment inside and out.

Entrepreneurship

Business target management. This includes monitoring and reporting, and taking corrective actions to achieve targets if required. Targets include sales, revenues, efficiency and positive guest feedback.

Payroll and operational budget management.

Development and execution of strategic plans to grow tasting room traffic and sales.

Creation of store presentation and merchandising and management of the merchandising portfolio.

Annual budget development and provision of monthly management reports.

Operations

Implementation of best practices for Point-of-Sale (POS) technologies.

Opening/closing procedures.

Inventory (order, stock, and maintenance).

Assisting tasting room staff in their duties when needed, working alongside the team, and modelling the behavior that is expected from tasting room staff.

Implementation of Food Safe, Serving it Right and other workplace best practices.

Applicants should have a minimum of 5 years retail or hospitality experience with at least 2 years in a management role. We are looking for a proven track record of success and the ability to ensure a smooth-running operation that maximizes sales while managing costs and motivating staff as a competent leader to ensure profitability through teamwork.
