Job Information
The Sahtu Divisional Education Council is seeking a grade 8 / 9 Teacher for a term position, beginning August 30, 2021 to June 30, 2022 at Chief T’Selehye School in Fort Good Hope, NT. The candidate must have or be completing a Bachelor of Education degree and be eligible for a Northwest Territories Teaching Certificate.
The following criteria will be important considerations in the hiring process: Strong background in teaching reading and intervention in reading, as well as strong approaches in balanced literacy and writing instruction. Familiarity / experience with reading intervention at junior high levels and Fountas & Pinnell Guided Reading and Reading Assessments are strong assets in this position Strong background in teaching Mathematics in grade 8 / 9, but specifically in small group and one-on-one interventionist settings. Ability to diagnose and address gaps in mathematical learning are strong assets in this position
Ability to indigenize content and pedagogy to leverage student success and to support a whole school approach to Dene Kede language infusion are strong assets
Current and relevant professional development specific to literacy, numeracy and Indigenization of teaching and learning
Able to integrate virtual teaching and learning as and when needed e.g. Google Classroom
Strong collaboration skills as teachers work together to improve student learning outcomes
Embrace strong connections with community and be open to engage fully in the rich cultural and extracurricular life of the school.
