        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

The Salvation Army’s Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign serves as Orillia’s primary fundraising program supporting its annual community and family services program and initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Kettle Coordinator with the 2021 Kettle Campaign from November 15, 2021 to December 24, 2021.
  • Assist the Kettle Coordinator to establish and maintain effective relationships with local businesses and the community, establish kettle placements within the community; communicate all kettle placement details in an effective and timely manner; represent the Salvation Army in a positive, professional manner.
  • Assist with inventory of kettle supplies and order replenishments when needed, including PPE.
  • Assist to coordinate the kettles schedules for all kettle locations Orillia community.
  • Ensure kettle placement locations have adequate supplies, including PPE; deliver supplies as needed; ensure kettle bubbles, stands and tip tap machines are in good working order.
  • Assist the Kettle Coordinator to establish, coordinate and schedule teams to pick up full kettles nightly and as per SA Guidelines; train kettle pick up people, be available to pick up kettles as required.
  • Assist with counting of kettles
  • Maintain excellent records of all money taken at the various locations.
  • Prepare and send out ‘Thank You’ letters to all volunteers, volunteer groups, paid workers, businesses, etc.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Kettle Coordinator
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings and Saturdays.
  • Help to fill in for kettle shifts when volunteers are absent.
  • Must have good command of the English language, both in written and verbal communication
  • French language is an asset

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed High School or equivalent.
  • Prior related experience would be a definite asset.
  • Must provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.  The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Understand, agree to, and work in accordance with the Salvation Army Mission Statement
  • Previous experience coordinating and organizing fundraising projects or special events is an asset
  • Previous experience managing volunteers
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Previous experience working with computers with MS Office and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly professional
  • Valid G driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract as well as access to a vehicle and cell phone
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and with ease, in English (both orally and written)
  • Experience with general office equipment and a good working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially MSWord and Excel).
  • Excellent time management and organization abilities

HOURS: 33 – 40 hours per week

Normal hours of work: as per campaign operational requirements.
