Description
The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Fenelon Falls Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution
- Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle
- Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution centre
- Provide assistance with sorting toy donations
- Record statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner (using Link2Feed and The Salvation Army’s Client Management System to record client assistance (food bank and Christmas assistance)
- May provide assistance in the Kettle campaign where needed
- Provide assistance in food bank/family services operations and client assistance, including intake
- Ensure the food bank area is tidy and clean, sort and process items donated to the Christmas food hamper program
- Refer monetary donations to designated staff
- Perform other position related duties as required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary position
- 30 hours per week. Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification
- Local travel may be associated with this position
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed High School or equivalent
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience would be preferred
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability
- Demonstrates compassion for people experiencing hardship, poverty, and crisis
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 lb. boxes
- Reliable transportation, AND
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including evenings and Saturdays
- Ability to represent The Salvation Army in a positive and professional manner in the community
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
- Honest, courteous and punctual; represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and internet
Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening, a clean driver’s abstract, and participate in our online Praesidium Academy Abuse Prevention Training and Health and Safety training
