Description
Broadview Village has 40+ years of providing outstanding support to adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges and we are currently hiring a Temporary Full-Time Community Support Worker. This position reports to the TEP Supervisor and is currently assigned to work at Broadview Village (1132 Broadview Avenue); and involves travel within the City.
The Transitional Employment Program (TEP) is a vocational rehabilitation program for people with a mental illness. The focus of the program is to prepare individuals for competitive employment by providing them with work skills, training and support. The Community Support Worker encourages and empowers the people we support towards meaningful contributions to society and to sustain good mental health and emotional well-being.
The Successful candidate will be able to support individuals in the following employment services: Office Cleaning, Custodian and Janitorial work, Landscaping and Gardening, Painting, Window Cleaning, Vending, Moving, Event set up and Clean up; Carpet Cleaning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide on the job training and support to individuals in order to develop skills and proficiency in specific general labour jobs (Office Cleaning, Custodian and Janitorial work, Landscaping and Gardening, Painting, Window Cleaning, Vending, Moving, Event set up and Clean up; Carpet Cleaning)
- Provide individualized counselling services to a caseload of 20 – 22 individuals within the rehabilitation model, philosophy and policies of the agency
- Assess client needs and implement a goal –oriented rehabilitation plan
- Provide the range of services typically described under the term “case management” in the absence of any other support, and based on client’s need within the framework of holistic support
- Establish and maintain appropriate helping relationships with individuals and customers, modeling effective/efficient behaviour and demonstrating acceptable professional behaviour
- Assist in ensuring that service contract obligations are negotiated with customer and met; while ensuring that individuals who participate in the TEP program have the skills to meet these contract
- Be aware of all aspects of workplace safety, and cleanliness
- Provide maintenance of program machines / equipment as required
- Maintain client files and complete OCAN as required
- Ensure customer relations and business ethics are aligned with The Salvation Army Standards
- Provide job coaching / role modelling TEP work opportunities
- Comfortable with physical tasks like bending / twisting / walking / lifting heavy weight and extensive driving between different work sites
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Social Work or diploma and experience deemed equivalent
- Valid and current Standard First Aid Certificate CPR Level C Certificate
- Valid and current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certificate
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Counselling experience in mental health, developmental challenges, and /or addictions
- Training and experience in rehabilitation
- Experience in case management and OCAN
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Demonstrated documentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of safe operation of machinery and equipment associated with the labour contracts of TEP
- Strong organizational skills and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal, oral/written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills needed in Microsoft Office and email programs
- Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion and confidentiality
- Ability to work independently and remotely out in the community
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
HOURS: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM (hours flexible to meet program needs)
