Description
Within the context and mission of the Salvation Army Northridge Community Church, give cooperative direction to various aspects of the summer day camp program. This Day Camp seeks to provide excellent children’s programming, including families that would otherwise be unable to afford a summer day camp experience for their children. This camp will either be in person or virtual depending on Covid-19 restrictions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the Day Camp Coordinator, Sports and Outdoor Coordinator, Children’s Outreach Coordinator and the Youth Outreach Coordinator, in planning, organizing and implementing all programming for the Northridge Community Church Summer Day Camp
- Assist the Day Camp Coordinator and Sports and Outdoor Coordinator with the planning of all online camp programming, including craft activities, games, daily schedules, and Bible teaching
- Work with the Day Camp Coordinator to acquire necessary supplies and coordinate the distribution of materials
- Work with the Sports and Outdoor Coordinator to organize and implement outdoor activities using the Covid-19 protocols and procedures
- Assist with organizing camp space areas in the church and outside of the church
- Be aware of all safety protocol and government regulations and ensure that the camp falls in line with these requirements. This includes Covid-19 protocols and procedures as well as Online Safety regulations for The Salvation Army
- Attend staff meetings as necessary
- Be a part of the Summer Camp health and safety committee
- Work with the Day Camp Coordinator in the advertising process
- Take the lead on welcoming new families to Day Camp and work with families whose children have special needs to adapt programming accordingly. Connect them to our Children’s Outreach Coordinator and the Youth Outreach Coordinator
- Work cooperatively with the Day Camp Coordinator, Sports and Outdoor Coordinator, Children’s Outreach Coordinator and the Youth Outreach Coordinator, Church Staff and volunteers in all aspects of the program
- Establish and maintain an effective method of communication with the Day Camp Coordinator, Sports and Outdoor Coordinator, Day Camp counselors, Church Staff and families of those children attending day camp
- Establish follow-up procedure for day campers after day camp has ended to connect them with ongoing programs at the church
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- be between 17 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Able to work within a Christian atmosphere and to promote the goals of the program and the mission of the Salvation Army
- Previous experience working with children
- Must be comfortable teaching/interacting with campers/staff over Zoom/Online virtual programming and be comfortable with pre-recording items for day camp. Experience in filming and video editing, and social media promotions an asset
- Possess leadership qualities, be organized, hardworking, dedicated and creative
- Works well independently and is a team player
- High levels of enthusiasm and strong customer service skills
- Willing to provide a Criminal Background Check, complete The Salvation Army’s Statement of Applicant for Work with Children form and complete the Armatus Abuse Risk Management online training before camp begins
- Complete training in the Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters Online safety protocols and procedures.
- Complete all necessary Covid-19 hygiene requirements as well as any Public health safety measures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Hold a valid driver’s license, preferably a “G” License.
- Have or be willing to get Standard First Aid and CPR
- Be available for full 8 weeks of program
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring
HOURS: 30 hours a week over an 8 week period. Total 240 hours for period. Starting July 5th – August 27th, 2021
