KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with a team under the direction of the Camp Coordinator
- Help plan, develop and implement the day camp program
- Work with other camp counselor, camp staff and volunteers in monitoring children during sign in and sign out, tracking attendance, and supervising children’s scheduled activities, ensuring their health and safety at all times
- Motivate campers to develop new skills
- Offer care and compassion to the children empowering them to grow in character and competencies
- Set up and clean up before and after class
- Maintain order and organization of scheduled activities (indoors/outdoors), classrooms; ensuring that rules of the classroom, building, and equipment owned by The Salvation Army are understood and followed by all students
- Attend all staff training/orientation and meetings
- Uphold all health and safety regulations making sure all safety rules are being followed
- Work cooperatively with the camp coordinator, camp administrative assistant, church staff and volunteers in all aspects of the program
- Other duties assigned may include cleaning and organizing supplies etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- The successful candidate must meet the requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Program
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusively) at the time of intake/selection
- Able to work within a Christian atmosphere and to promote the goals of the program and the mission of The Salvation Army
- Have own computer with reliable internet connection as file access and meetings may take place online
- Ability to work remotely and report regularly
- Willingness to receive and implement instructional feedback
- Ability to communicate and work with students and administration
- Excellent critical thinking and organizational skills
- Organized, hardworking, dedicated and creative, and possess leadership qualities
- Able to work well independently and as a team player
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Experienced in working with children (preferred but not required)
- Standard First Aid and CPR an asset
- Knowledgeable of Korean and/or Farsi language (an asset but not required)
HOURS: 35 – 40 hours per week (July – August)
