Description
Within the context and mission of the Salvation Army Scarborough Citadel, give direction to and oversee all aspects of the summer day camp program. The Children & Youth Coordinator will take the lead on ensuring all safety protocol is followed throughout the course of the summer. This Day Camp seeks to provide excellent children’s programming, including families that would otherwise be unable to afford a summer day camp experience for their children. This camp will be virtual, based on Covid 19 restrictions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the Children & Youth Coordinator in planning, organizing, and implementing all programming for the Scarborough Citadel Salvation Army Summer Day Camp
- Assist in planning and running the day-to-day operations of the program. This includes (but is not limited to) daily schedules, registration of campers, and communication with day camp parents
- Implement an online registration system for the Summer Day Camp program
- Plan and implement various events leading up to the start of camp. This may include volunteer training nights, leadership development programming for young volunteers, and the Day Camp interview and hiring process
- Plan, organize and implement staff training/orientation for other day camp staff and volunteers along with the Children & Youth Coordinator
- Be aware of all safety protocol and government regulations and ensure that the camp falls in line with these requirements. This includes Covid-19 protocols and procedures as well as Online Safety regulations for The Salvation Army
- Lead and/or attend staff meetings when necessary
- Assist in advertising the Day Camp program using various methods
- Maintain accurate records, statistics and supplies for the Day Camp program
- Work cooperatively with the Children & Youth Coordinator, Day Camp staff and volunteers in all aspects of the program
- Establish and maintain an effective method of communication with all Day Camp staff, church staff and families of those children attending day camp
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Previous experience working with children
- Able to work within a Christian atmosphere and to promote the goals of the program and the mission of the Salvation Army
- Must be comfortable teaching/interacting with campers/staff over Zoom/Online virtual programming and be comfortable with pre-recording items for day camp
- Possess leadership qualities, be organized, hardworking, dedicated and creative
- Works well independently and is a team player
- Complete all necessary Covid-19 hygiene requirements as well as any Public health safety measures
- Strong communication and computer skills
- Have or be willing to get Standard First Aid and CPR
- Be available for full 10 weeks of program
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clear internal abuse registry check
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring
HOURS: 27 hours a week
