Description
This camp may or may not be a virtual camp depending on Covid restriction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the camp coordinator and camp administrative assistant in planning, and implementing camp
- Assist with supervision of scheduled activities
- Be aware of all safety protocol and government regulations and ensure that the camp falls in line with these requirements. This includes Covid-19 protocols and procedures as well as Online Safety regulations for The Salvation Army
- Maintain statistics and supplies for the day camp program.
- Work cooperatively with the camp coordinator, camp staff, church staff and families of those children attending day camp
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*.
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
- Be available for full 8 weeks of program
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Have own computer with reliable internet connection, as file access and meetings may take place online
- Must be comfortable teaching/interacting with campers/staff over zoom/online virtual programming and be comfortable with pre-recording items for day camp
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics
- Organized, hardworking, dedicated, creative, and possess leadership qualities
- Able to work well independently and as in a cooperative team-oriented atmosphere
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Experienced in working with children, an asset
- Knowledge of Korean and/or Farsi language, an asset
