        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Maintenance Worker will maintain all equipment at The Eventide Home in good operating condition and that building and facility are in good condition. This is to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all residents, visitors, volunteer s and staff

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains all equipment in a safe and efficient manner to ensure their good condition
  • Ensures building is in good condition
  • Repairs equipment as requested on work orders, which would include, but not limited to plumbing, minor electrical, furniture and small equipment
  • Responds to work orders from all departments
  • Completes all preventative maintenance work as required/requested
  • Reads and records Domestic Hot Water temp daily
  • Ensures the building temperature is adequate
  • Reports any problems that cannot be solved or repaired
  • Reports any problems that may cause future breakdowns
  • Ensures garbage is removed from the floors and garbage room daily and placed into the garbage bin
  • Ensures all outdoor refuge containers are emptied as required and that the grounds are kept free of debris
  • Responsible for snow removal, this includes shoveling, snow blowing, salting and keeping all exits clear
  • Move furniture and other equipment as needed
  • Keep all mechanical rooms, storerooms, electrical rooms and workshops clean and neat
  • Receives deliveries as requested and delivers and stores in appropriate locations
  • Completes any additional requests or assignments from the Director of Environmental Services as required
  • Work must be completed to the satisfaction of the Director of Environmental Services
  • Staff must follow all Department and Eventide Home Policies and Procedures
  • Staff must follow all Health & Safety rules and work in a safe manner
  • Perform other position related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 77 hours bi-weekly
  • Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required
  • Normal location of work is at 5050 Jepson Street, Niagara Falls, ON

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Willing to continue education, to increase knowledge in carrying out job
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • WHIMIS training
  • No previous experience required in LTC, however it would be an asset

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Physically able to handle daily routines and duties that may consist of bending, pushing and lifting
  • Willing to use all skills and knowledge related to this position
  • Pleasant and caring personality
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and disciplined

  • Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
