Description
To ensure efficient, safe and secure operation of an open custody / open detention facility through a high level of resident supervision and staff team support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise residents in the facility
- Accept direction from the Senior Counsellor
- Complete duties, reports and logs as per shift description
- Work a rotation of two weeks of overnight shifts from 12 am to 8 am and one week of afternoon shifts from 4 pm to 12 am
- Communicate and enforce facility rules while maintaining discipline and safety
- Follow policies and procedures of The Salvation Army Correctional & Justice services – Cuthbert House, The Salvation Army and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services
- Assist in the provision of comprehensive case management for assigned clients
- Provide individual counseling
- Assist with completing case management plan for each assigned resident within 30 days of entry into the custody and assist with the completion of regular updates thereafter
- Assist clients to address their criminogenic issues
- File closure procedures and other shift responsibilities
- Deal with interpersonal relationships within Cuthbert House in a therapeutic manner
- Observe, assess and document resident behavior and ongoing progress in a factual manner
- Deal with serious incidents and crisis in a safe and therapeutic manner
- Appear in court when necessary
- Supervise the delivery of medication as required
- Assure residents are provided with appropriate medical attention
- Escort residents in a lawful, safe and expedient manner as required
- Challenge and address criminal conduct and thinking
- Refer clients to outside resources and counseling when needed
- Support the mission of The Salvation Army
- Support clients in fulfilling their spiritual needs
- Deliver group programming when required
- Provide supervision and feedback to student placements
- Complete sundry duties for required housekeeping and maintenance duties in the facility
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Degree or diploma in Social Science, Corrections, Childcare or Social Services
- CPR/ First Aid Training
Experience:
- Related experience
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Knowledge of correctional practices
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually
HOURS: 40 hours per week
