Description
The Children and Youth Worker will assist with providing safe, fun summer activities and ministries for children and youth in the Belleville region.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help to plan, organize, and oversee community children and youth programs and events
- Assist in conducting, planning, and supervising recreational activities for children and youth; assist with leading group events
- Assist in maintaining accurate records related to activities
- Assist with mentoring, supporting, and guiding the children and youth
- Help youth build life skills, develop healthy relationships, and make good decisions
- Assist in facilitating and creating lesson plans for daily activities
- Help to organize and lead various small group and large group activities
- Help build the confidence, and self-esteem of the children and youth
- Assist in developing creative online alternative activities for the children and youth
- May be required to drive corps van to take children/youth to camp
- Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of Secondary School
- This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required with valid insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
- Previous camp and youth ministries is an asset
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification is an asset
- Experience working with children and youth is an asset
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- Ability to work collaboratively and participate as an active team member
- Leadership: Able to provide a positive influence that represents the organization and faith
- Communication: Effective written and verbal ability in working as part of a team
- Administration: Demonstrate ability to plan and execute tasks to support the camps
- Ministry: Able to offer spiritual support and guidance to others
- Health and safety: Maintain a clean work environment according to Covid safety plan. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Training: Receives and gives direction well
- Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs.
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
- Travel may be required
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clear internal abuse registry check
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training is required
HOURS: 35 hours per week for 8 weeks. Must be available for full 8 weeks of the program. Start and end date is yet to be determined
