Description
The Warehouse Associate will be responsible for standard warehouse duties of receiving, sorting, put-away, picking and shipping of primarily food products for a great cause.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Warehouse:
- Inspect goods received for quality, damage and expiry (use-by) dates
- Build skids of fresh, frozen and / or dry goods for delivery
- Sort and re-package food
- Accurately count/weigh product being delivered or shipped
- Assist with inventory reconciliation
General:
- Promote the Mission, Policies and Objectives of the Railside Services Ministry in the Ontario Central East Division
- Prepare, complete and submit documentation in a timely manner as required
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Adhere to the Salvation Army Policy & Procedure Manual, Railside Policy & Procedure Manual and Railside Health & Safety Guidelines
- Ensure all comments regarding goods and / or services from Ministry Units, suppliers or other contacts are communicated to Railside management in a timely manner
- Wear the appropriate safety / Personal Protective Equipment and maintain a clean uniform
- Ensure all work is completed in a safe manner, in accordance with TSA, WSIB, and all other regulatory requirements
- Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Have a G class Driver’s License
- Proven attention to detail and the ability to follow legislation, directions, policies, procedures and well-defined steps
- Ability to personally and safely lift up to 39 pounds
- Reliable, self-motivated and confidential
- Ability to work in a team setting as well as independently
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Able to adopt a flexible work schedule during peak and / or seasonal times
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
- Ability to understand and adhere to the Code of Ethics
- Able to work in a consultative, diplomatic and tactful manner
- Organizational / time-management skills to plan and manage the workload
- Respect for and understanding of The Salvation Army – its mission, culture, and values
- Previous experience is an asset
- Be available for full 7 weeks of program
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers’ abstract
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring
HOURS: 30-40 hours a week
