Reporting to the Site Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in planning, developing and implementing course content within the Online ESL Program.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Conducting research to determine the best practices in curriculum development based on the principles of Portfolio Based Language Assessment and the Canadian Language Benchmarks;
Working with the Program Advisor to plan, develop, and implement curriculum using Moodle software for the Online ESL Program;
Reviewing and revising existing curriculum based on the principles of Portfolio Based Language Assessment and the Canadian Language Benchmarks;
Identifying cultural elements to integrate into language learning;
Developing curricular goals and outlines for new curriculum and curriculum updates;
Developing outlines with the necessary basic detail to direct instruction for the Online ESL Instructors;
Developing and assisting with testing of lesson plans and course material to ensure ongoing improvement of the material;
Providing support to ESL Instructors with interpreting and delivering the curriculum;
Reviewing course evaluations and data to make recommendations for how to improve and edit curricula;
Establishing and following through on setting personal and professional goals and developing a plan for professional development;
Participating in professional development workshops and in-service training as required;
Contributing to the growth and development of the program by participating in projects and committee work;
Working with community partners and employers to ensure curriculum is relevant, accurate and meets needs of employers and community partners
Other duties as assigned.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
One year College diploma specializing in English as a Second Language (TESL) or equivalent;
Minimum one year related professional experience;
TESL Ontario certified;
Knowledge of ESL curriculum and instruction;
Familiar with Portfolio Based Language Assessment Principals;
Familiar with the Canadian Language Benchmarks especially at the lower levels (CLB 1-4);
Familiar with creating courses in Moodle or similar software;
Knowledge of current techniques and procedures used in the design and development of curriculum;
Professional, positive and outgoing demeanor with excellent relationship building skills;
Strong planning and presentation skills;
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills;
Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Microsoft Office;
Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities; and
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $23.59 per hour
