Description
This is a temporary part time position based on 24 hours per week. This job requires the ability to lift/move 25 lbs. and reach, bend, stand, sit and use a computer.
Normal hours of work: the work hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements three days in a week, between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour paid meal break.
Start Date: November 15, 2021
End Date: February 18, 2021

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the Wellness Coordinator to plan and execute program activities for seniors who are lonely and/or marginalized and/or immigrants/refugees
- Encourage, support, respect, connect and demonstrate a positive, caring, energetic attitude towards all clients and other church/staff members
- Promote the program through verbal, print and/or digital means
- Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution
- Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner
- Connect and liaise with other community agencies
- Report any issues/recommendations made by clients to the Wellness Program Coordinator
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
Perform other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of Secondary School
- A working knowledge of community programing for seniors
- This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:

- be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*.
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision
- Some experience with navigate through social media and other communication channels
- Experienced in working with seniors preferred
- Proficient typing skills in order to input client’s information in a timely manner
- Knowledgeable of Korean and/or Farsi language is an asset

- Organized, hardworking, dedicated, and creative
- Experience working with seniors is an asset but not required

- Pleasant and courteous manner
- Ability to work under pressure of time constraints
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
