Description
To assist the Corps Ministry Unit to achieve its objectives for the main fundraising program, Christmas Kettle Campaign, in support of the work of the Community and Family Services Ministry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Arrive at assigned location on time; remain with Christmas Kettle until shift change or Kettle is picked up by personnel
- Stand near Christmas Kettle for the entire duration of shift; greet, smile and collect donations from passers-by; thank donors
- Follow instructions of Coordinator; report any issues and/ or concerns to Coordinator as they arise
- Promote Salvation Army programs & services, volunteering, when opportunities arise
- Respond to donor questions or make appropriate referral
- Collect donor’s information when a request is made for a charitable tax receipt
- Manage inventory and request supplies when necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary position
- Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements.
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification
- Local travel may be associated with this position
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed High School or equivalent
- Related experience is an asset
Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Previous fundraising experience, customer service, and volunteer experience an asset
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Be punctual and reliable
- Positively portrays The Salvation Army and reflect its mission and core values
- Possesses good customer service skills – by being friendly, courteous, positive, flexible, task oriented, patient
- Be able to work independently
- Ability to focus on job and refrain from distractions, i.e. mobile phone usage, texting, etc.
- Possesses good oral communication skills
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 lbs.
- Willingness to work indoors at high traffic retail locations
- Follows the dress code and be well groomed
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Attentive listening skills for the purpose of supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
HOURS: Up to 24 hours per week; flexible hours may be required Monday to Saturday
Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Screening.
